I must confess, I’m not much of a New Year resolutions type of gal. I think resolutions put more pressure on a person, and we usually end up not following through anyway. However, I do like to do certain things before the year turns.
THINGS TO DO BEFORE 2018
I think the best way to start a year is determined by the way to end the previous one. Sure, any issues or problems one may have don’t simply go away just because someone decided to change the number of the year. But there are things you can do so you start it off on the right foot!
Organize your life
Whether you need to clean up your closet, your makeup drawer is busting at the seams or your phone apps are all over the place: organizing something will make you feel like you are starting the year right. It’s up to you how much time you want to spend doing this, as little as 5 minutes will make you feel accomplished and like you can take the world.
Start planning the next year
If you’re anything like me, you already have at least one planner for 2018. Take the chance to start filling it in with important things such as birthdays, holidays and appointments you already have set for the next year.
Think about what you achieved in 2017 and where you want to be in a year
You don’t need to go all crazy sharing every experience you had on Instagram. But you should take the time to sit down and think about the year that is ending. What did you like the most about it? What would you do differently? How did you change? I also think it is important to take the time and think about what you want to achieve in the coming year. It doesn’t need to be anything huge like buying a house, it can be something just a simple as drinking more water or being kinder to yourself. Make your own resolutions for 2018.
Practice some self-care
We are constantly on the run, trying to get everything done at once (and perfectly!), being everything we can be to everyone around us. And what do we forget the most? Taking care of ourselves. So before the year ends, why don’t we do just that? Take a long hot shower or a bubble bath. Light your favorite candle and read a book on the couch, cuddled up in a blanket with a cup of tea. Or take a bit more time doing your hair and nails or use that body lotion reserved for special occasions (you know, the one we love but never use because we don’t want it to run out). Go ahead and make it a resolution to take better care of yourself!
Whether you’re staying home or going out for New Year’s Eve, just remember to have a good time and enjoy yourself! Give everything else some time off and really enjoy the turning of the year.
