The ABCstar conference

On the 22nd and the 23rd or April the ABCstar conference took place at the Tabakfabrik in Linz. I first saw the tickets in February, when I was home after the surgery. After some thought and a quick word and encouragement from Markus, I was able to get the Early Bird ticket. When the day of the conference came, I must say I was pretty nervous. Not to mention we were moving that Saturday and I had all type of guilty feelings for having fun while the boys were moving our furniture.

How it was and what I thought about it, you can read below!

When I first got to the Tabakfabrik, I didn’t see many people around. Once I got into the Étage Lumière, I started feeling really nervous. Would I find anyone to talk to? Would I end up being the weird girl, alone in a corner? I felt the same way as the new kid in school. But I didn’t need to. The organisators were SO nice and extremely funny too. I quickly found a few people to talk to and even got to use the Photobooth – courtesy of Punkt&Komma!

The first day was spent hearing different speakers, talking about their blogs. There was something for everyone! Sebastian Huber from Tagespresse made the start and I gotta say, getting a glimpse of how their articles are written was pretty awesome! Markus Cerenak gave us some tips of how to earn money from our blogs and we even had a lawyer giving us a crash course on law and blogs!

The three amazing organisators!

I must say, the speaker that I was least excited about was the one who I ended up loving the most! Sophia Hoffmann from Oh, Sophia, writes a vegan blog and even has a vegan cookbook. I have mixed feeling about the vegan movement, I’ll explain: most of the people I know are vegans or turned vegans because “everyone else is doing it”. Basically I feel that 20% of vegans are “real” vegans, with the values and morals and the rest are just jumping on the wagon because it’s new, hip and trendy. I had never heard of Sophia and wasn’t very impressed when I saw she was speaking. But after hearing her, I changed my mind! And we’re all human, so I am allowed to change my mind!

She has an amazing way of speaking and telling stories, has amazing recipes on her blog and she brought us treats. I mean, if everything else didn’t make it, that for sure made me like her. I must say, I was a bit nervous trying out red bread – yes, you heard it right RED bread – but it was beyond delicious!!! I’m definitely going to try some of her recipes (as soon as we get our kitchen!)

The first day ended with three different Instawalks. I chose the one with Swarovski, because I love the brand and it’s been in my life since I was a child. You can see the post of it and the photos I made clicking here.

Some of us ended up going to dinner together and afterwards there was a party organized by the conference. I ended up not going, because I was very tired and wanted to be fresh for the second day of the conference. Also, I thought I could maybe still help putting things in boxes for the move, but Markus had already done the most.

The second day started with a speed-dating between us bloggers and the companies that were also in the conference. Something went wrong with my inscription, because they never got it and I ended up not being matched with anyone 🙁 But it was all good, I just talked with the companies that had free moments and I ended up making some good contacts! After lunch – amazing btw and most of it vegan (I am a vegan lover now!), we had the workshops. Everyone could attend three.

The first workshop I chose was all about affiliate marketing – “Affiliate für Einsteiger“, with Karim-Patrick Banour as a speaker (pictured above). He talked all about affiliate links and how to use them and I found it very helpful! Also, he was funny and that’s always a plus!

The second workshop I attended was the one all about taxes for blogging – “Das kleine 1×1 für Selbständige“. The two lovely tax consultant ladies explained us all about how it works to be a full-time blogger when it comes to taxes, income, outcome and all we need to know in a crash course. It was a lot of information in very little time, but it was very good!

Last, but not least, I went to the workshop about blogging and cooperations – “How to: Kooperationen mit Unternehmen“. I have to say, Kristine Honig-Bock made this the best workshop! It was the last one, we were all a bit tired, but she has such a contagious energy that you just couldn’t not take part in it. She also made it more of a discussion instead of just her standing there talking, which was very good!

I left the conference with a lot more information in my head, some goodies they gave us and a lot of contacts! The amount of people and bloggers that were there, was absolutely amazing. There were Lifestyle, Fashion and Travel bloggers and getting to know all of them was a huge blessing. I am truly happy for having met all of them and for keeping contact with some of them too!

Have you ever been in a Blogger Conference? If so, let me know how your experience was! Were you also as nervous as me? Or am I the only weird one?
