Review: Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics

It comes to no surprise that I like Urban Decay as a brand. I own the Naked 2 and 3 and even wrote a review on the Naked 3 (only in English). So when I found out back in August that the brand was coming out with the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics, I was more than excited!

I finally got my hands on it in September and after using it for the last few months, I’m sharing with you today what I think of the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics palette:

Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics

What really made me curious about the palette is the texture of the eyeshadows. All eyeshadows in the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics are matte in texture. You read it right, they’re all matte. I wouldn’t have gotten the palette solely because of the colors though, as they’re not really all that unique.

Just like the Naked 1, 2 and 3, the Urban Decay Naked Ultimate Basics also has 12 eyeshadows. A double-ended brush is also included. One of the ends is perfect to use the eyeshadow as liner and the other one to blend the shadows. The palette also has a huge mirror – perfect for travelling!

The colors all complement each other beautifully. Blackjack (below right) looks almost black, but it is actually a dark grey. I like that, since those who already have other palettes (like the Naked 2) already have a black in their collection. The upper row has cooler tones and the lower row has warmer tones. However, they’re not overly cool/warm and therefore can be worn by a variety of people – very clearly a plus point! My personal favorite colores are Instinct and Lethal (the 2 last ones on the upper row), but I also like Extra Bitter (second from the left, second row).

The colors blend very nicely with each other and also with other Urban Decay palettes – at least with the Naked 2 and 3 with which I used it. Since the eyeshadows are matte, you can expect some more fallout than with shimmery shadows. However, I don’t think it is as extreme as with other cheaper brands with less quality.

All in all I am pretty happy with the Urban Decay Naked Basics palette and would get it again in a heart beat!
