Body Shapes: an Introduction!

Hey hey everyone!!

For a very long time I was unhappy in my skin. I grew up pretty fast (think boobs at the age of 8!) and in a country of short people being 1.68cm (5’5) at the age of 12 was anything BUT easy, I assure you. I wasn’t skinny, I never will be. I hated the way I looked! It didn’t help that I had all of the kids at school bullying me and calling me things like white whale and monster (oh yes…that happened…).

Then, something magical happened while I was living in Vienna! I started watching What Not to Wear, just for fun. There, I got to learn that there are different body shapes, that each of them is beautiful, that if it doesn’t look good on you, it’s the clothes fault and not yours! This in return led me to research more!!! (along the way I also found out platinum blond did NOT look good on me, nor do Orange or bright Yellow! Although my mustard colored cardigan is fine!). I ended up attending a Fashion Styling Course and really loved it!

So here I am writing this post, a small introduction of the four most common body shapes out there!!! I wished I had had someone telling me about this when growing up and having all of those problems, so I hope this might help you through!!

Body_types

They are:

Rectangle, or Banana
Apple
Pear
Hourglass!

Bananas (or rectangles) are, as the name suggests, almost curve-less. This means, they are build without curves…as if there is a straight line from the shoulders to the hips!
(Celebrities with this shape include Cameron Diaz or Natalie Portman, for example!)

Apple shaped people typically have their weight concentrated in the middle section and usually have skinnier arms and legs!
(Celebrities with this shape include Drew Barrymore and Elizabeth Hurley)

Pear shaped people tend to carry their weight in the lower section of their body! They usually have bigger hips and thighs and a smaller upper part!
(Celebrities with this shape include Rihanna and my beloved Lauren Conrad!)

The Hourglass shape is considered by some as the easier to dress, but being an Hourglass myself, I disagree! Being an Hourglass means you have curves all around and your waist cinches in! Think wasp wastes…that’s an Hourglass!
(Celebrities with this shape include Kim Kardashian and Salma Hayek)

There are the four principal body shapes! But please bear in mind that they all are beautiful and they all change! Some people might find themselves between two body shapes! During that “time” of the month I for example am between an Hourglass and an Apple shape.

It’s about how you dress yourself! Fashion is there to make you feel and look better, but mostly to have fun!!!

I'm sorry you went through that 🙁 that's rubbish. I know how badly negative comments can effect you, but trust me it always makes you better and stronger in the end. I mean look at you now, you went on a styling course and you have a blog, so that's a great achievement. Always turn the negativity into positivity. That's what I do. Never let it get you down. And you are right, everyone's shape is different, it doesn't matter on the size of the person or the height, if they wear clothes that flatter the figure then they look amazing! I definitely agree with you 🙂 🙂

I love this post, it is really helpful! I think I am a pear shaped! Do you think you can do some more posts like this, maybe with some advice on how to dress our shape? That would be great!

Love your blog! I follow now!

Yes, at the time it was horrible (and sometimes I still get down, of course) but in the end it made me a stronger person and I really do believe I can give back by helping other people that went through what I did! I really think my blog is my baby =D

I think clothes are made to make you feel better and I've been in shops so many times and ended up feeling crappy about myself because the fit of the clothes wasn't right for my body shape and I just wished I knew then that it wasn't my fault! =D

Well, sometimes people between two shapes! There are times (usually during “that time” of the month) where I'm between an Hourglass and an Apple shape! You just have to play with the clothes, see what looks best on you and remember what matters is what YOU like!!
